# What is a VASP or CASP?

A VASP (Virtual Asset Service Provider) and CASP (Crypto-Asset Service Provider) refer to regulated entities that offer services related to virtual assets or cryptocurrencies. While both terms are often used interchangeably, VASP is defined by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), whereas CASP is used in the European Union’s MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) regulation.<br>

Examples of VASP/CASP Businesses:

* **Cryptocurrency Exchanges**
* **Custodial Wallet Providers**
* **OTC (Over-the-Counter) Trading Desks**
* **Crypto Payment Processors**
* **Liquidity Providers**
* **Remittance & Cross-Border Payment Services**

### What a VASP or CASP Represents in Ospree?

At Ospree, a VASP or CASP represents the entity facilitating virtual asset transfers and must be indicated as part of a Travel Rule transfer record. This ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and allows proper identification of both the originator and beneficiary VASP or CASP in transactions.

{% hint style="success" %}
In the Ospree platform (Dashboard & API), the term “VASP” is used to refer to both CASP and VASP-regulated institutions involved in Travel Rule transactions.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ospree.io/quick-start/intro-to-ospree/what-is-a-vasp-or-casp.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
